Ephedra Review
What It Is
If you are facing weight problems, you have likely looked into different weight
loss pills. While some pills live up to their manufacturer's claim and some are even safe, most of them have
some type of negative side effects.
Sometimes side effects can simply be an inconvenience, such as headaches. On the other hand, sometimes side
effects can be dangerous, possibly even fatal.
This is the case with Ephedra diet pills. The main ingredient in this pills is Ephedrine, which
comes from a plant in China, Malaysia, Indonesia and other South Asian regions.
People in these areas have used the plant for years to treat a number of conditions including asthma and hay
fever, but using the plant for weight loss purposes has become so dangerous that the FDA
has actually placed a ban on it.
The Evidence
In 2003, the FDA released a statement suggesting that Ephedra diet pills were dangerous to
people's health because of the many side effects associated with the pills. The FDA conducted several tests through
the RAND Corporation and found that Ephedra was responsible for 157 deaths. The drug was completely banned by the FDA in 2004.
Many countries still use Ephedra and there are still laws about their distribution and use. The deaths linked to
Ephedra were likely due to heart attacks or strokes, which can be linked to the many side effects of
Ephedra.
The most harmful side effect associated with Ephedra is that it can cause an irregular
heartbeat. This means that heart can beat excessively fast, possibly even faster than it should. This
places a lot of stress on the heart and if it is overworked too much it will simply stop.
Ephedra has also been known to cause seizures, which can lead to physical or mental damage. During a seizure,
individuals go through jerky body movements and can even lose consciousness. Seizures can also cause heart attacks
if they aren't treated and this can cause death.
Ephedra has also been linked to high blood pressure. While this is a
common side effect with most weight loss pills, Ephedra places so much strain on the heart that this side effect
can be life threatening. A few of the deaths linked to Ephedra were the result of individuals having high blood
pressure while on the drug. Since these individuals seen it as a normal side effect they didn't regard it as a
serious issue and didn't contact their doctor.
Along with these serious side effects, Ephedra also has number of less severe side effects. Users of Ephedra
have reported experiencing: anxiety, drug dependence and insomnia.
The Verdict
Ephedra shouldn't be taken by anyone. There risks are far too high to simply get short-term
weight loss through Ephedra. There are a lot better alternative diet pills on the market today that are safer and
offer good results.
